Hall of Fulfilment

The Hall of Fulfilment is an oasis of calm for the departed, accented only by the artful presence of the peony. The flower inspires the design of the ceiling feature, which is composed of a series of lobed terraces that radiate from the chandelier. They echo the swelling, overlapping petals of a peony in full bloom and the beauty of nature.

This eye-catching bloom earned it a place in the imperial gardens of ancient China, when it reigned supreme as the ‘King of Flowers’ - a title it retains to this day. Underpinned by its prestige, the peony has also become an unparalleled icon of prosperity, honour and wealth throughout Chinese culture.

It’s why the peony is reimagined as a gilded statuette that’s inset into the facade of each niche. Showcased in open blossom against the rough-hewn interior of a rock, it signifies that the soul has fulfiled his or her ultimate potential in life on Earth. As if creating a dialogue with the soul’s next life, the inset is ring-fenced by an otherworldly frame.

The interior of each niche offers a glimpse of what this next life could look like. Washed in a rich golden hue, it carries a dreamy backdrop of rolling foothills in autumn and a mirror-like lake that’s rendered in watercolour print.
