Hall of Infinite Light

The Hall of Infinite Light is designed around the image of Amitābha Buddha. As the principal Buddha of Sukhavati (the Western Pure Land), Amitābha Buddha is the living embodiment of infinite light, which shines without obstruction across all realms to impart wisdom to each soul and guide him or her towards enlightenment.

This effect is summoned to mind by the four identical monuments of Amitābha Buddha that crown a majestic octagonal tower at the heart of the memorial hall. Clad in mosaic gold tiles, the tower shimmers ceaselessly under the brilliance of the chandelier. But the rest of the hall wears a more discreet white, allowing the light to diffuse elegantly across the space.

In keeping with the theme of the hall, another symbol of Amitābha Buddha and an emblem of a lotus flower in full bloom - itself a vessel of purity and enlightenment - are embraced in a soft halo and enshrined in the facade of each niche. The rest of the facade is adorned with metallic gold rhinestones, which serve not as borders but as prisms that again reflect the infinite light.

Inside each niche, an inscription of the Anjali Mudra (mudra meaning hand gesture in Sanskrit) is etched onto the backdrop. The most widely recognised mudra, it’s a gesture of profound respect for the soul and a fitting tribute to the departed.
