Hall of Benevolence

Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva (大愿地藏菩萨) serves as both the focal point and the bastion of the Hall of Benevolence. His monument sees him in full regalia, including his khakkhara staff - an ancient symbol of spiritual authority and the power to dissolve obstacles, the cintamani - a wish-fulfilling jewel that provides salvation from harm and the five-Buddha crown - a supreme emblem of the connection between him and the cosmos.

Gilded to highlight their omnipotence, they are key to his mission to liberate all souls in each realm of existence from even their deepest pain and suffering and light up their path to enlightenment.

As a revered icon of benevolence, Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva is often pictured with his 佛光 or Buddha Light. It manifests overhead as a sunburst motif that encapsulates its fiery energy as it blazes through the cosmos in search of souls who may need his guidance.

For them, the ancestral tablets here offer solace under his aegis. Each features a translucent statuette of a full-bloom lotus flower - itself symbolic of purity and enlightenment - that comes alive with vivid details as a backlight sweeps through it.
