Hall of Truth

The Hall of Truth draws design cues from the Avatamsaka Sutra, the seminal Buddhist scripture that describes the cosmic phenomenon known as Indra’s Net. The latter sees a multifaceted jewel appear at every intersection of an infinite net and reflect all other jewels in the net, creating a kaleidoscope of mirror images.

A metaphor for a single reality - or true standing of a soul as measured by his or her karmic state - arising from the sum of all his or her past actions, this phenomenon is interpreted to great effect in this memorial hall. Its generously mirrored interior catches the reflection of each ancestral tablet in a boundless realm, where spiritual awakening beckons each vesseled soul.

This profound symbolism is further reinforced by the compassionate presence of Kṣitigarbha Bodhisattva (大愿地藏菩萨). Revered for his vow to purify all souls of their negative karma, he’s depicted with his khakkhara staff that he uses to dissolve obstacles and guide each soul on his or her path to spiritual awakening.
